FOLLOW (CountryMusicTunes)! On This Day: February 21, 1976 – Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson hit No. 1 on Billboard’s country chart with “Good Hearted Woman” – a song that became an anthem of outlaw country. Waylon got the idea after seeing an ad about Ike & Tina Turner, inspiring him and Willie to write about a strong woman loving a wild, rambling man. He first recorded it solo in 1972, but when the live duet dropped on Wanted! The Outlaws (the first-ever platinum country album), it took off. The song won Single of the Year (CMA 1976) and remains one of the most iconic country duets of all time.
