The first federal hate crimes law was passed in 1968, protecting people targeted for who they are and what they believe. More than 50 years later, hate crimes laws have expanded: 💥 46 states + D.C. protect against bias based on race, ethnicity or religion. 💥 34 states + D.C. protect sexual orientation. 💥 34 states + D.C. protect disability. We’ve come a long way — but hate still persists. The fight for safety and equality continues, and it starts with how we prevent hate-fueled violence from occurring altogether. #HateCrimesAwarenessMonth #HCAM26 #TheMarchContinues
