Hey, hey, y’all! Welcome to Design School with Professor Quarles: a new series I’m starting based on questions you’ve asked me about design!
In long and short form, I’ll be sharing tips with you to help us all curate our homes, using simple formulas. And this class - we’re covering Pattern Mixing!
My go-to formula is:
* Establish a cohesive color palette by choosing 1 color as your base. Once you’re more comfortable, try the entire color palette as your base!
* Mix larger patterns with smaller ones so that the prints don’t compete. Shown in both my bedroom and dining room, you can go bold with a print in your rug, and a finer or less-detailed pattern on your walls.
* When in doubt, start small. Play with patterns in your smaller furniture pieces and your accessories.
* Try and repeat: once you’ve played with pattern with your walls and rugs, try it with the accessories, and art in your space!
These tips will help you create livelier spaces in your home without them feeling too crowd...
