Cities’ orange glow is fading as white streetlights redraw the view from orbit. 🛰🌃
For decades, sodium streetlights gave roads and neighborhoods their familiar orange tint. As cities replace them with white LEDs, entire street grids change color in nighttime photographs taken from orbit. LEDs can use less electricity, last longer, and make colors easier to distinguish on the ground. Those everyday streetlight upgrades add up to a transformation visible from space.
