A martyr's bones turned into the Church's most dazzling argument. 🕯 ⚱️ Workers under Rome in 1578 accidentally broke into a tunnel filled with thousands of skeletons, and the Catholic Church turned them into treasure. The bones were believed to belong to early Christian martyrs, and the timing changed everything. The Protestant Reformation was destroying Catholic relics across Europe, so the Church responded by making its relics impossible to ignore. Skeletons were shipped north to Bavaria, Germany and Switzerland, where nuns trained in a convent craft called Klosterarbeit spent months and sometimes years on a single body, wrapping each bone in protective gauze before setting gold wire, pearls and gemstones by hand. They became known as Catacomb Saints. This one, labeled St. Felix, has been sitting on his golden throne for roughly 300 years, every jewel still in place. Love Technology?
