Protection works better when it doesn’t look like protection 📍💎
At 16, South African student Bohlale Mphahlele designed an earring-sized safety device that can capture an attacker’s photo, send the wearer’s location, and trigger an emergency alert in seconds. It earned science-fair recognition and is moving toward a real product because it fits a hard reality: in dangerous moments, anything bulky or obvious loses value fast.
What stands out isn’t gadget novelty, it’s the disguise. A tool hidden in ordinary jewelry is easier to wear every day, harder to spot in a crisis, and more useful when panic leaves no time to explain.
The strongest safety design often comes from reducing friction, not adding flash.
