America’s debt is now a spending category of its own 💸🇺🇸
The U.S. has crossed $39 trillion in national debt, which works out to $114,000 per person and now sits above a $31 trillion economy. Debt at that scale is no longer an abstract scorecard; it shows up as an annual interest bill that now tops $1.2 trillion.
At the same time, the government spent $1.78 trillion more than it collected in 2025, so the balance keeps growing while the carrying cost rises with it. Deficits add debt, and debt adds interest.
When borrowing compounds faster than revenue, fiscal room shrinks before anyone officially decides to cut it.
