James Trafford’s last-gasp penalty heroics ensured England was crowned winner of the European Under-21 Championship with a 1-0 win against Spain.
Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones scored the only goal of the game when he deflected Cole Palmer’s free kick into the Spanish net on the stroke of halftime.
As the match was reaching its conclusion, Spain was awarded a 98th-minute penalty which striker Abel Ruiz stood over. Trafford saved Ruiz’s penalty before brilliantly saving the rebound from an onrushing Spanish attacker.
"I told everyone this morning I was going to save a pen," Trafford said after the game. "When they got a penalty, I knew I was going to save it."
