A public swearing-in of Detroit's first female mayor and other elected officials was staged Friday morning at a celebratory event at the 2,700-seat Detroit Opera House that included performances, a poem and more. Detroiters overwhelmingly elected Mary Sheffield, 38, in November to succeed Mayor Mike Duggan, who had been in office for three terms. The former city councilwoman is the first woman mayor, along with the first Black woman, in the city's 324-year-history. Link in bio for more. #detroitnews #detroitmayor #detroit
