President Donald Trump was joined by Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Republican state lawmakers and other Michigan officials during his visit to Selfridge Air National Guard Base. They gathered together after they and Michigan's bipartisan delegation had lobbied Trump and President Joe Biden before him for years for a new fighter mission to replace the 21 aging A-10 fighter aircraft at Selfridge. Trump announced that Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County will receive a "brand new" F-15EX Eagle II fighter mission with 21 aircraft in a gesture that should "save this place," he said.
