Crews have isolated a break in southwest Detroit’s water piping system that has sparked flooding and prompted resident rescues. Members of the Downriver Dive Team carried children to safety through the water as well as evacuated adults and children by inflatable boats. At one point, some people were transferred from an inflatable craft to the back of a Detroit Police Department truck, which also helped to get some residents out of the flooded area. A 54-inch steel water transmission main in the area of Beard and Rowan streets broke early Monday, according to a release from the Great Lakes Water Authority. Service crews rushed to isolate the break, which was on a steel pipe originally built in the 1930s, the authority said. More at the link in bio.
