Each year on August 15, we celebrate International Day of the Cotton-top Tamarin
Moody Gardens is home to 2 male Cotton-top Tamarins found in the Rainforest Pyramid.
These small primates are endemic to Colombia and are critically endangered. In the Rainforest you will find them typically foraging for bugs as they move from one tree to another. Tamarins are faced with many threats in the wild, and habitat alteration and destruction are two of those threats. As an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited facility, we participate in the Cotton-top Tamarin Species Survival Plan (SSP), and work with other accredited zoos and aquariums to ensure sustainable healthy populations as well as support organizations that are working to protect them in the wild.
