#BlackHistoryMonth: This is Reynelda Muse, a true trailblazer as the first woman and first African-American to anchor a newscast in Colorado. In 1969, she started co-anchoring on KOA-TV (now known as KCNC- @CBSDenver). She left Colorado to be among the first group of anchors on CNN in 1980 but would return full-time to KCNC in 1984 as co-anchor of the station’s “Colorado Evening News” program until she retired in 1997.
She won many awards during her incredible career, including becoming the first woman chosen by her Colorado Broadcasters Association peers as “Broadcaster of the Year” in 1993. In addition, the Reynelda Muse Television Journalism Scholarship was established in her honor in 1998 by the Colorado Association of Black Journalists. The one-year scholarship is awarded annually to an African American student majoring in television journalism.
