The Sisterhood. This one of my favorite pictures of all time. The Sisterhood writing group formed as a revolutionary space to discuss literature and liberation. Pictured are writers Nana Maynard, Ntozake Shange, Louise Meriwether, Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor, Alice Walker, Audrey Edwards, June Jordan and Toni Morrison. This photo was taken in February 1977 at June Jordan's apartment where these incredible Black woman gathered to eat gumbo, drink champagne and talk about their work as writers, activists, and feminists.
