Fox 8’s Natalie Herbick was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. She subsequently opted for a double-mastectomy and reconstruction. She’s still recovering from the latter, a fact amazingly at odds with her picture-perfect appearance and effervescent demeanor to which viewers of New Day Cleveland, her daily, two-hour lifestyle show are accustomed. Herbick was back on the air 2½ weeks after her surgery, despite her doctors’ advice to take four weeks off work to recover. She’d been able to manage the post-op pain by taking Tylenol and Advil rather than the prescribed painkillers. Herbick’s work to drive home the importance of cancer screenings is just beginning. She’s received messages from women stating they got a mammogram simply after hearing her tell her story on Fox 8. Now, her plan is to take her situation and turn into a positive force in Northeast Ohio.
