Bop-it⁣ ⁣ NASAHubble captured this view of a barred spiral galaxy in the direction of Eridanus, 69 million light-years away from Earth. Unlike typical spiral galaxies, barred spiral galaxies do not spiral completely toward their center but contain two straight bars connecting the nucleus to its arms.⁣ ⁣ This image, captured in 2004, shows the details of the galaxy: blue and red supergiant stars, star clusters, and star-forming regions across its spiraled arms and cosmic dust across the bars connecting to the nucleus. Scientists speculate that the heart of this galaxy is not known to be active, indicating that either the black hole at its center doesn’t exist or it is not accreting matter.⁣ ⁣ Image descriptions:⁣ ⁣ Image 1: A central light pink spiral nucleus shines bright on the right center of the image, with specks of blue, pink, and black dotting the arms as they reach out toward the left edge of the picture. Yellow and orange galaxies can be seen in the background.⁣ ⁣ Image 2: The ...
