James discovered running shortly after he became sober. At first, not drinking was enough of a challenge for him. But eventually, he needed something more.
“Like any good addict,” he says, “we are all or nothing types of folk, so we like to do extremes.” Unsatisfied with the 5K race distance (and with running just for himself) he signed up to run a marathon in support of Team to End AIDS.
Running is now a regular practice which helps James feel grounded and find peace. “I can just look at the ground watching my feet go.”
