Between 1973 and 1992, Universal Studios (Tour) Hollywood had an intriguing facade known as the Burning House, which showcased a fascinating illusion. At first glance, this house seemed impervious to fire; however, this was not the case. The illusion was skillfully achieved by employing gas jets and fireproof materials to create the burning effect. The facade lacked a back and sides, adding to the illusion's mystique.
Initially situated in what is now the Upper Lot (Entertainment Center), close to the Universal Amphitheatre, the Burning House later found its permanent home in 1982 at what is now Jurassic Park - The Ride. The clever setup involved non-flammable materials for the facade, which remained flame-free until a tram approached. That's when the hidden gas jets inside the structure were activated, and the mesmerizing flames came to life. To enhance the effect, black paint was used around the windows to simulate charred wood.
