It was a beautiful Colorado morning at the Edge Ice Arena where members of Hockey Heals and family and friends of Patrick Donnelly came together for a Smudging Ritual from Rick and Riley Alire. Smudging is a Native American ritual that lifts away sadness, impurities, and anxieties leaving peace and harmony for all after the cleansing. Rick and Riley are part of the Navajo and Apache tribe and today shared their culture with our Dawg Nation family. Rick and Riley led us through a ceremony where we honored the donor that made the choice to save a life, not knowing it would be Patrick. Because of this donor, Patrick was given a second chance at life! We are sending prayers to this donor and their family who are grieving the loss of their loved one and sending support and strength to Patrick as he heals from his heart transplant.
