CMU student Jessica Hetzel models a dress from the adaptive clothing collection during the 2023 Threads Fashion Show.  “I wanted a piece that represented me. As a disabled person it’s very difficult to get clothing, especially dresses that fit correctly,” Jessica said. “I assisted my designer in making a garment that would be as accessible for me as possible. Having a garment that fit perfectly and was made with my body in mind was empowering.” The Threads project was Hetzel’s capstone for her Disability Studies and Community Inclusion minor.  “Disabled people are rarely represented, especially in the fashion industry. The adaptive line was the essence of disability pride, showing who we are and being confident in our disabled body. Disability visibility is extremely important, everyone needs to see themselves represented in the world!” Dress designed by ash_charliee #DisabilityVisability #LifeAtCentral #Accesibility #DisabilityAdvocacy
