#ThisIsVirginia spotlight this week, Norfolk boxer Keyshawn Davis. The 24-year-old professional boxer from Norfolk is on quite a roll. His record stands at 9 wins, 0 loses, and 0 draws, with a knockout rate of nearly 70%.
But don’t let the fame and glory fool you into thinking he got to where he’s at easily. At age 18, Davis’ life took a dramatic twist. The high school senior had recently moved from Norfolk to Alexandria to work with famed boxing coach Kay Koroma. There, Davis struggled with feelings of pressure building up within him, stemming from both the weight of trying to help his family get out of poverty and being separated from his mother.
Davis spoke about the experience in an exclusive interview with Tokyo 2020, published on the official Olympics website.
