Employees of the University of Virginia (UVA), including contractors and student workers, will no longer be able to access TikTok or WeChat on University-issued devices or University networks. The ban is in compliance with Virginia law, namely Gov. Youngkin’s Executive Order #24, which bans the use of any applications developed by ByteDance on state government devices and Wi-Fi networks. The executive order follows years of concern over national security risks from the apps. “TikTok and WeChat data are a channel to the Chinese Communist Party, and their continued presence represents a threat to national security, the intelligence community, and the personal privacy of every single American,” Youngkin stated in a release regarding Executive Order #24. Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, and the University of Mary Washington also banned the apps last month. 📸 Solen Feyissa/Unsplash . . #tiktok #fyp #tiktokban #bantiktok #uva #universityofvirginia #vcu #virginiacommonwea...
