“When did you fall in love with hip-hop?” This is the question we asked local hip hop artists and hip hop influencers as we countdown to the birthday of hip hop, which is on August 11. Here is what Dr. Faith Wilkerson had to say: “I think for me, I fell in love with hip hop in the late nineties. I was born and raised in New York and I fell in love with hip hop at birth because that was just the environment that I grew up in. You have Run D.M.C., Eric B., and then you get into Salt-N-Pepa and you just you kind of grew up hearing that kind of music. I call it the orange tape but it’s Master P’s Ghetto D.
