Do you know a veteran who developed an illness from burn pit exposure? If so, they could benefit from the bipartisan Honoring Our PACT Act. The legislation broadens access to Veterans Affairs (VA) health care and benefits, expanding services to approximately 5 million individuals exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. It covers veterans from the Vietnam era, the Gulf War era, and the Post-9/11 era. Surviving family members of a veteran may also be eligible for these benefits. There is no deadline to apply for benefits granted by the Honoring Our PACT Act. However, veterans and their survivors seeking to receive backdated benefits should submit an intent to file a claim by Aug. 9. You can submit a plan to file the form online at va[dot]gov, or call the VA at 800-827-1000.
