Hundreds of drivers waited outside a St. Pete gas station on Saturday to fuel up for free courtesy of rapper Rod Wave who grew up in the area. The singer, rapper and Lakewood High School alumnus held a giveaway for $25,000 worth of gas, drawing residents to park and wait for hours as fuel prices remain higher than they’ve ever been. Rod Wave’s mother, Charmaine Newsome (photo 2) helped pump gas and organize volunteers, including Lakewood High football players and staff. She said the gesture showed her son's character. Rylee and Rylan Dunner (photo 1), of Tampa, played with bubbles as they waited with their dad who made sure to come with an empty tank. Each customer could take up to $50 of gas, or about 12 gallons. Read more about the event at the link in our bio. ✍️ : Langston Taylor & 📷 : @abaderphoto / Tampa Bay Times (April 9)
