The 1993 I-Cubs season was one to remember, full of near disasters and ultimate triumph. Sec Taylor Stadium flooded. A nearby fire blew toxic chemicals the Cubs’ way. And it wouldn’t be an Iowa summer without multiple tornado scares.
But the Cubs fought through it all en route to the organization’s only championship, complete with a dramatic home run from Tuffy Rhodes that cemented the title run.
Shades of that championship DNA have appeared in this year’s I-Cubs squad, which currently sits in first place atop the International League West Division. Can the Cubs repeat what happened 30 years ago this season?
