In February 1969, Lombardi not only became head coach, but he was also the general manager of the Washington Redskins. The Redskins finished at 7–5–2, their first winning record since the 1955 season. Lombardi died the following year, but he was credited with having "truly changed the culture in that one unforgettable season in 1969,"[105] laying the foundation for Washington's early 1970s success under another future Hall of Fame coach, George Allen. Vince Lombardi was also credited with coming up with the Redskins “R” logo.
