Brighton was born with bilateral renal agenesis, a rare condition that was discovered in utero. Doctors discovered that his kidneys had not formed, and there are few survivors of this condition nationwide. Originally from Southern Missouri, the family spoke with a few children’s hospitals closer to home, but ultimately decided that Omaha could provide him with the best possible care.
Brighton's first surgery took place at just 3 days old and, since that initial procedure, he has had a total of 6 surgeries—making great strides in his dialysis treatment. He is a fighter, surprising everyone with the things he can and wants to do.
"Seeing that left eye peek open after all the swelling went down during treatment was a moment that filled me with so much hope," says mom, Kerry.
