Every penny counts and when we come together, we’re able to make significant change. Our community proved that more than 75 years ago when they united around one dream: building a hospital solely dedicated to caring for children, where no child needing medical care would be turned away for an inability to pay. A dream inspired by the compassion of Margaret Doorly.    In the late 1940s, a community-wide penny drive and generous support from 30,000 donors throughout Nebraska and western Iowa laid a cornerstone with the promise of a brighter, healthier tomorrow for children and families. Together, we opened the doors of Children’s Memorial Hospital in time to meet the tremendous need brought on by the polio epidemic.   It’s been our privilege to be Nebraska’s only hospital dedicated to children, and it’s the support of our community that’s propelled us for 75 years and counting.
