About 60 Pacific University students have a home address on Maui, school officials said, some of whom have lost homes in the wildfire or may still be waiting to hear from loved ones. The fire’s official death toll had climbed to 111 as of Friday, though that number could still rise. Pacific and other Oregon universities with strong ties to the Hawaiian Islands are soliciting donations for their student emergency funds to help students affected by the wildfires pay for housing, transportation, technology and other unforeseen costs.
