(Part 3 / 3) When The Sonder Project launched the ‘Education Is Power’ program in Kasikidzi, Andrew was one of the first students to apply and be accepted for sponsorship.
Within a few months, Andrew’s education was back on track. Despite spending an extended period out of school, and attending open school, Andrew performed well on his Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) exams, and was accepted back into a secondary day school. Andrew’s parents also noticed a huge change in his attitude and a renewed focus on his life goals.
These days, Andrew looks forward the most to his mathematics and English courses, and plans to seek higher education overseas in China after graduating. When we asked him how he became interested in China, Andrew told us, “education empowered me to be more aware of what is happening around the world.”
