A normal day turned life threatening this past January for 9-year-old Angelina, who collapsed in her fourth-grade math class after going into sudden cardiac arrest. School personnel and emergency responders took swift action to save Angelina’s life with CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED), and Children's Criss Heart Center team later identified that she had experienced a serious arrythmia called ventricular fibrillation. Since that day, active and outgoing Angelina has gotten back to her old self, living life fully with music, sports, dance and time spent with her family. Her experience even spurred her elementary school to become a designated Heart Safe School through Children's Project ADAM program, committing to advanced preparedness for a cardiac event for students, staff and visitors alike.
