Pete, the brainchild of Penguins founder Jack McGregor, came to the Penguins following the team’s first season in 1967 and quickly became a fan favorite. When he died of pneumonia later that year, the team had him stuffed and placed in the Civic Arena trophy case, where he remained for a few weeks before being stolen. His fate remains unknown.
