Participants started in front of the Carnegie Library on their first mile, after which they had to eat six doughnuts — or as many as they could in the Casual Division. Following that, they had to run one more mile. The event was organized by CMU's Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity to raise money for ALS research.
