Matthias Tayala, a four-time NCAA All-American in the hammer throw, assists Alisha Carandany of Oakdale with a weight exercise Thursday at the Dick’s Sporting Goods (dickssportinggoods) headquarters in Findlay. Dick’s has been partnering with the U.S. Olympic Committee in a deal that makes the retailer the official sporting goods retail sponsor to the committee and to Team USA. As part of the deal, Dick’s created an in-store employment program meant to help Team USA athletes with flexible work opportunities to deal with their training schedules. On Thursday, some athletes visited the company’s headquarters. Mr. Tayala works as a Dick’s associate in Niles, Ohio, and is one of more than 200 athletes in the company’s Contenders Program.
