As of Feb. 16, Eight Bay Area counties — Alameda (including the City of Berkeley), Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano and Sonoma — lifted indoor mask requirements for most public spaces. Santa Clara County is the outlier.
The move means nearly all of the Bay Area is now aligned with the state's new masking guidance, which also went into effect Wednesday. Fully vaccinated Californians may now take off their masks in most indoor public settings, including stores, restaurants, gyms and movie theaters. Unvaccinated people must still mask in all indoor public settings.
