Working out of three smartly arranged storage containers on 40th Street near Broadway in Oakland, owners Oscar Michel and Jake Weiss didn’t want to risk their staff’s health in the cozy quarters. So, they closed for over three months and turned to selling custom-made gift cards and T-shirts, applied for federal financial assistance and took a paycut in their salaries.
