Dear Oscar Grant,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This marks the 10th year that you’ve been gone. Every New Year it has bothered me what happened to you. I still don’t believe that law enforcement is taking safer precautions on the way they handle simple confrontations with people in the community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want to tell you that you have one of the strongest mothers in the world. Your mother has become an activist and she is your voice. She nurtures other mothers and families who don’t know how to deal with losing their loved ones. She saves lives on an ongoing basis by witnessing and standing behind them when they’re dealing with losing their children and relatives. I’m sorry it took for you to lose your life for your mom to stand up and say this is ENOUGH.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is your 10th year, and one thing that I will say is that “I AM OSCAR GRANT.” Rest easy baby boy. I never got a chance to meet you, but I know you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
RIP Oscar Grant Jr.
