Want to see something incredible? Then head over to the Roanoke Star atop Mill Mountain! At noon today (Aug. 30), the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke will release a rehabilitated Red-tailed Hawk. The bird came to the center on June 1, after being observed as weak and tired on the ground. The center discovered that the hawk had a significant wing injury, which was infected and infested with maggots. Larvae were also found in the bird’s ears. “Treatment included going through starvation protocol/care (when starving, administering too many fluids or consuming too much food can actually result in death), getting lots of antibiotics, and extensive daily wound care,” according to a press release from the center. “After spending almost three full months with us in recovery—and having recently passed flight school and then mouse school—we're extremely happy to announce that she is ready to return to the skies.” . . #redtailedhawk #birdsofprey #vabirds #birdwatching #birdwatcher...
