At this very moment, Emperor Penguins are incubating their precious cargo whilst facing winds of up to 93 miles per hour and temperatures as low as -70°F. The Emperor penguin males care for a single egg, incubating it upon their feet covered only by its abdomen.  After nine weeks in the harshest winter on Earth, they will lose almost two thirds of their body weight as they protect their offspring. The chicks hatch around August, at which point the female penguin returns from the sea and takes over parenting duties.
