As a college football analyst I get asked all the time — “what do I look for on film when prepping to call a game.” Well, this is how I do it. First is a list of a few “personnel” questions I look for an answer to… - Who do they go to in big moments? - Who are they throwing to on 3rd down? - Who are the blitzing on 3rd down? - Which corner is matching up against the best receiver? From there, the next 2 are tendency/scheme based. There’s 2 ways teams change their strategy – by field zone or by down and distance. Then I answer the question. - What’ the 3rd down strategy on O and D? - How does their offensive/defense change by field zone?
