James L. Farmer, an inaugural Freedom Award honoree, was one of the O.G. (original) Great Debaters of the Historically Black Wiley College. - He co-founded C.O.R.E, the Congress of Racial Equality, where he helped to train Civil Rights Leaders in nNon-violent strategies. He also helped to organize and lead the 1961 Freedom Rides.
