On Saturday, September 9th, Maine will open its doors to many of its beloved lighthouses to celebrate Maine Open Lighthouse Day. Since around half of 2023's inclusions for the annual event are historic lighthouses generally closed to the public, this will be a rare chance to explore some of Maine's oldest beacons. Because 15,000 to 18,000 visitors are expected to explore the more than 20 land-based and offshore lighthouses that day, we suggest planning ahead and even doing the tour by kayak if you’re feeling adventurous. At our link in bio, we’ve shared some of the most unique spots to add to your lighthouse hit list along with information on guided tours and more historical institutions in the area to make the most of your coastal stay. 📸: shansexploration_photo #maine #lighthouse #maineevents #lighthouseopenings #beacons #visitmaine #mainespots
