Des Moines Public Schools officials have released guidance on how staff should handle gender identity issues concerning students to help navigate new Iowa laws targeting LGBTQ youth. District staff, the guidance says, will comply with the new laws requiring parents to be notified if students seek to be identified by a different gender and requiring students to use bathrooms, locker rooms and changing facilities that align with their gender at birth.
