DYK, the shortest-serving US president, was from Virginia? President William Henry Harrison, inaugurated on March 4, 1841, only served for 31 days. Harrison traveled to Washington, DC, via train on the day of his inauguration. Upon arrival, he mounted a horse and rode through the district—but he chose to forgo a coat and gloves. If you’ve ever traveled to DC in early March, you can probably guess the weather conditions that day. Yep, it was cold and drizzling. Unfortunately, Harrison caught a cold after being out in the elements. The illness progressed and developed into pneumonia.
