There is a misconception that gender inequality is an issue that only impacts developing nations, but that’s not true. There is not a place on Earth where women are equal to men. Period.    Our fund focuses on India specifically because of the significance of the issue and the size of its population. More girls negatively impacted = a chance to empower more girls. We also think it’s important to be specific when it comes to this work because each culture has its own unique DNA. For example, the obstacles that prevent a girl from attending school in India may differ from the obstacles girls face in Indonesia. And although shame is universal, how it is used as a weapon against girls and women can differ from culture to culture.
