Eastern hellbender salamanders just got put back on track for federal protection thanks to a Center petition and lawsuit we filed with allies. The hellbender is facing drastic population declines across its range in the eastern United States, and this puts them one step closer to gaining much needed Endangered Species Act protection. “These odd and charming salamanders can survive, but they desperately need the help of the Endangered Species Act,” said Center lawyer Elise Bennett.
