Miyazaki’s not done yet!
Hayao Miyazaki‘s history of retirement is a complex one. He initially stepped away in the late 1990s, but then returned to direct the 2002 Oscar-winning “Spirited Away.” While “The Wind Rises” in 2013 was believed to be his swan song, his newest film, “The Boy and the Heron,” took on that mantle more recently. '
But Studio Ghibli‘s VP, Junichi Nishioka, let it slip during the Toronto International Film Festival that Miyazaki may be far from finished.
“Other people say that this might be his last film, but he doesn’t feel that way at all,” said Nishioka through a translator, according to CBC.
“The Boy and the Heron” revolves around a young boy’s enchanting encounter in an old building, where he discovers a magical heron. It’s set to debut in North American theaters on December 8, after a successful premiere in Japan.
