Today begins National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Week! UC Santa Cruz is proud to be a Hispanic-Serving Institution and Seal of Excelencia certified as both designations recognize our intentionality and historical effectiveness in serving our Latinx students. Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) are higher education institutions that enroll more than 25% of Latinx students. Only 19% (571) of higher education institutions meet this definition, but HSIs enroll 62% of all Latinx students. National HSI Week is an opportunity to celebrate the work and the essential role that HSIs play in improving access to education and advancing equity practices for underserved students. At UCSC, the HSI Initiatives and El Centro teams have deepened their partnership through unwavering commitment to centering and elevating student voices.
