Baby Moon Trees!⁣ ⁣ The @u.s.forestservice has begun germinating some of the 2,000 tree seeds that traveled around the Moon and back to Earth aboard #Artemis I.⁣ ⁣ Inspired by the Moon Trees grown from the seeds carried by astronaut Stuart Roosa during Apollo 14, the Artemis Moon Trees will be planted all over the country. Four of the five species flown on Apollo 14 were aboard Artemis I again because they are common species and together represent a broad geographic area of the lower 48 states. Coast redwood, with a somewhat limited natural range, was replaced with its cousin, giant sequoia, which has more widespread use in parks and arboreta.⁣ As teams are preparing Artemis Moon Tree seeds for distribution, @NASA is running the Moon Trees Quest in collaboration with @u.s.forestservice to seek out and observe the Apollo Moon Trees, and other trees of the same species.
